Seasonal Flowers in December

December is tradition. Advent wreaths, Christmas rose, amaryllis bulbs, fir greenery, first spring tulips. Cut flowers step back — potted plants, wreaths, Advent decor dominate. But: late December already brings first tulips for January.

December arrangement with fir branches and amaryllis

Advent wreaths are the main product of the first half of December. We bind fresh fir wreaths with wax candles, classic or modern (with dried berries, eucalyptus, cinnamon sticks). A fresh wreath lasts 3–4 weeks — order in the week before the first Advent or just after.

Amaryllis are the classic December potted plant. A bulb in a pot blooms across the Christmas days — usually red, white, pink or striped. Long-lasting, gives a very different character than cut flowers.

Christmas rose (Helleborus) — the actual winter flower. Grows outdoors, blooms December to February. As a cut flower short-lasting (3–5 days), as a potted plant for weeks.

Fir branches in many varieties — Nordmann, Nobilis, noble fir. For door wreaths, table arrangements and cemetery plantings.

Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) is the classic indoor plant. Likes warmth and not too dry, holds well through January. Combine with a decorative pot.

First spring tulips arrive at the auction late December — heralds of the January season. If you want a bouquet between Christmas and New Year and want to break from the fir mood, you can buy tulips now.

Not in season in December: all summer and autumn flowers (sunflowers, dahlias, asters). Available as imports but feel out of place in winter.

Gift ideas: Advent wreath, potted amaryllis, fir arrangement, filled basket with fir branches + candles + chocolate. We package as a gift on request.

Frequently asked

When do I need to order the Advent wreath?
By Thursday before the first Advent at the latest. We bind fresh on order — pre-ordered wreaths last longer than spontaneous shop pick-ups.
Are there fresh cut flowers in December?
Yes — tulips from mid-December, year-round roses, lilies, gerberas. But the bulk of December floristry is plants and bound work (wreaths, arrangements).
Which gift suits Christmas?
An amaryllis in a pot lasts from early December until after New Year and is more personal than a cut bouquet. A fir door wreath is classic and noticed. We combine both as a gift set on request.
