Poppies are the wildest early-summer cut flowers — paper-thin petals in intense red, black centre. Classic for meadow bouquets and romantic weddings, but short-lived.

Florist trick: seal stem ends immediately after cutting with a candle flame (2–3 seconds). Prevents sap loss and significantly extends vase life.
Vase life: 3–6 days. The bloom is fleeting, part of its symbolism. For occasions where instant impact matters (wedding arch, single statement vase).

Toxic to cats and dogs. Poppies contain alkaloids (opium poppy also morphine and codeine) that can cause restlessness, dilated pupils, tremors and breathing problems. Contact a vet if ingestion is suspected.
