Choosing Wedding Flowers: Season, Color, Budget

How to get from a Pinterest mood board to real bouquets — without falling into the season trap.

Pink tulip detail — romantic and soft

The most common call we get in February: ‘We're marrying in September and we want peonies.' A hard conversation, because peony season ends in June. This article helps you spot those gaps early.

Step 1: Check season, not just inspiration. Save Pinterest images, then note your wedding date. Compare against our season calendar. Peonies, lily-of-the-valley and lilac are true seasonal flowers. Roses, lilies, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and gerberas are nearly year-round.

Step 2: Define a palette. Three primary colors plus one accent is the rule of thumb. Very white weddings need a soft green note (eucalyptus, olive) or they read sterile. Colorful weddings benefit from a dark color (burgundy, bordeaux-black) that ties everything together.

Step 3: Set a realistic budget. In Düsseldorf, typical wedding floristry budgets land between €1,500 and €6,000 — depending on bridal bouquet size, table count, ceremony florals and setup logistics. Planning with high-summer seasonal flowers is cheaper than winter peonies via import.

Step 4: Contact florists early — ideally 6–12 months out. Good Saturdays in May through September often book a year ahead. Late requests don't reduce flower choice, but they do reduce florist choice.

Step 5: Trial bouquet? A nice way to confirm style and color together. We offer it on request at extra cost (typically €80–150), credited back to the final invoice when you book.

Step 6: Wedding day. Floristry arrives early, often 2–4 hours before the ceremony. We set up, document if you like, then leave. The next day we collect vases, stands and pampas grass — included in the price.
