Confirmation Flowers
In most Düsseldorf parishes confirmation falls in spring — between Palm Sunday and Pentecost, so March to May. That timing helps: tulips, ranunculus and the first peonies arrive at the auction at their freshest exactly then. A confirmation bouquet should feel young, not like a formal arrangement — fresh, bright, a little cheeky.

For the confirmand we recommend a loose, spring-fresh bouquet rather than a solemn composition. Tulips, ranunculus and a few anemones make a bouquet that suits a 14-year-old, not a golden wedding. For girls, pastels with a little peony work beautifully; for boys, cleaner colours with plenty of greenery and eucalyptus — modern, not sweet.
As a guest at a confirmation you're right with a medium-sized, bright bouquet. Freesias, tulips and ranunculus in white, light blue, apricot or soft pink feel festive without tipping into wedding territory. A discreet cash gift pairs well with a smaller bouquet — the flowers become the gesture, not the whole present.
What we tend to avoid for confirmations: heavy dark-red roses and anything that reads as romance or mourning. Large classic arrangements quickly look too grown-up for a teenager, too. Better light, loose and in fresh spring colours — fitting for both the occasion and the age.
In practice that means we tie the bouquet in the morning from water refilled the night before with fresh stock from the Veiling Rhein-Maas auction. The bouquet lasts through the whole celebration and well beyond — A1 quality instead of a three-day-old supermarket bunch. For us it's about the careful selection, not the quantity.
Frequently asked
- Which flowers suit a teenager's confirmation?
- Fresh, loose spring flowers rather than formal arrangements: tulips, ranunculus, freesias and anemones in bright colours. For girls a touch of pastel and peony, for boys cleaner tones with plenty of greenery and eucalyptus.
- How large should the bouquet be as a guest?
- A medium-sized, bright bouquet is plenty. If you're also giving cash, the bouquet can be smaller — then the flowers are the gesture. Better a few excellent stems than a lot of bulk.
- When should I order for the confirmation?
- Two to three days ahead is ideal — then we source specifically at the auction for your bouquet and deliver across Düsseldorf in good time, ideally the Saturday before.
- Are red roses appropriate for a confirmation?
- Generally no — deep-red roses are the romantic code and feel out of place for a teenager. Better are bright, fresh spring colours like white, light blue, apricot or soft pink.
