Housewarming Flowers
For a housewarming the best gift is something that survives the first days in a new home. In the bustle of a move there is rarely time for daily trimming and water changes. So we recommend robust, long-lasting varieties, or a potted plant that carries on for weeks.

Our first recommendation for a housewarming is not the most delicate but the most durable bouquet. Chrysanthemums, carnations, lisianthus and hydrangeas easily last two weeks — ideal when the recipients are hauling boxes and not thinking about the flower water. For something fuller, pair them with eucalyptus or ruscus as a green frame that holds its shape even after days.
The more honest alternative to a cut bouquet is often a potted plant. An orchid blooms for months, a sturdy green plant grows along with the new home — and unlike a bouquet, it stays as a memory of the move. For people still assembling furniture, a plant in a pot is frequently the more practical gift.
What suits a housewarming less well: highly sensitive spring flowers or a bouquet that droops after three days. If the vase still has to be dug out of a box, the flower should forgive that. Oversized arrangements are tricky too — a half-furnished flat often lacks the space. Better a compact, dense bouquet than a sprawling display.
On colour, a housewarming may be cheerful and bright: sunflowers, gerberas or mixed bouquets in yellow, orange and white feel welcoming and fit almost any new home whose interior style you don't yet know. We source early each morning at the Veiling Rhein-Maas in A1 quality and arrange only afterwards — so the bouquet stands fresh on moving day rather than half-spent from the wholesale chain.
Frequently asked
- Which flowers last longest for a housewarming?
- Chrysanthemums, carnations, lisianthus and hydrangeas are very robust and hold for a good two weeks — perfect when the recipients are too busy moving to mind the flower water. Even longer-lasting is a potted plant such as an orchid.
- Bouquet or plant for a housewarming — which is better?
- Both work. A bouquet looks instantly festive at the housewarming party, while a potted plant stays as a lasting memory of the move and needs less care. For people still settling in, the plant is often the more practical gift.
- Which colours fit when I don't know the new home yet?
- Bright, friendly tones in yellow, orange and white — sunflowers or gerberas, for instance — feel welcoming and suit almost any interior style. A mixed bouquet is safer than a strongly coloured arrangement.
- Can I have it delivered straight to the new address?
- Yes — we deliver across Düsseldorf on both sides of the Rhine straight to the new flat. Just provide the delivery date and new address at checkout, ideally a day ahead so the flowers come fresh from the auction.
