Retirement Flowers

Retirement marks the end of a working life — often decades of it. A hastily assembled bouquet does not do that justice; a generous one does. A retirement bouquet may be lavish, festive, with stems someone clearly chose on purpose. It is no coincidence that this is one of the occasions where real floristry stands apart from mass-market bouquets most clearly.

Generous festive farewell bouquet for retirement with sunflowers and lilies

For retirement we recommend a generous, mixed bouquet with height and volume — not a delicate posy. Sunflowers, gerbera and dahlias bring warmth and an optimistic 'something new begins now' tone; lilies and lisianthus add dignity and scale. For a more formal, representative bouquet — say for a boss — roses with hydrangeas and a little eucalyptus work especially well.

Colour depends on the relationship. For a valued colleague it may be warm and lively: sunflower yellow, orange, strong pink. For a boss or a more formal relationship a muted, refined palette suits better — cream, white, soft apricot, framed in green. Both directions avoid deep red: that is the romantic code and out of place among colleagues.

What we would avoid: too small and too cool. A thin bouquet involuntarily says 'obligation gift', and a farewell after 30 years of work should be anything but. Equally unfitting are pure sympathy or condolence palettes in stern white-and-purple — retirement is a celebration, not a loss. Festive, not solemn.

In practice that means: we tie the bouquet on the delivery day from stems sourced fresh the night before at the Veiling Rhein-Maas — chosen for A1 quality and longevity, because a bouquet like this should stand in the office and look good for days. Better fewer high-grade stems with large heads than many mediocre ones. On request we include a hand-written card.

Frequently asked

How generous should a retirement bouquet be?
More generous than for most occasions — a working life deserves volume. We recommend a lavish, mixed bouquet with height; depending on budget a few large stems like sunflowers or hydrangeas already make a strong impression. When several colleagues pool together, it becomes a genuinely impressive bouquet.
Which colours suit a boss versus a colleague?
For a familiar colleague: warm and lively — yellow, orange, strong pink. For a boss or a more formal relationship: refined and muted — cream, white, soft apricot with plenty of green. Avoid deep red in both cases, as it reads romantic and out of place.
Can you deliver the bouquet to the office?
Yes — we deliver across Düsseldorf straight to the office, on both sides of the Rhine. Just give us the address, floor or reception desk and a preferred time so the bouquet arrives in time for the farewell. We add a hand-written card on request.
When should I order for the farewell?
Ideally a day or two ahead with a preferred time slot. That lets us source specifically at the auction and tie fresh for the delivery day. We still try to fulfil short-notice orders — then from the high-grade stock in the shop.
